Who We Are

The mission of the Lt. Col. Matt Urban Human Services Center of WNY is to revitalize neighborhoods, serve families, and change lives.

What We Do

The Matt Urban Center is a human services organization with a main headquarters located at 1081 Broadway and multiple sites throughout the Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood of Buffalo's East Side, including community centers, affordable housing complexes, and an emergency shelter for homeless women and children. We provide a variety of programs and services to the community, including Housing, Weatherization, Senior Services, Youth Afterschool and Summer programming, Permanent Supportive Housing, Homeless Outreach, and our Matt Urban Hope Center services.

The Matt Urban Hope Center acts as a one-stop-shop community resource center, responding to the needs of the surrounding community through access to a restaurant-style soup kitchen which provides a free quality meal five days per week, food pantry, personal essentials pantry, clothing boutique, housing and job assistance, benefits screening, and opportunities to participate in family-focused events, informative workshops and community meetings throughout the year. We also assist individuals who are homeless and those at risk of becoming homeless through various housing programs and intensive street outreach. The core services provided at the Hope Center address basic needs, income supports, public benefits, housing stability, health linkages, community wellness, and homelessness.

Our primary goals as an agency are to increase access to services for low income individuals and families and to empower community members to improve their quality of life. We accomplish these goals through collaboration with a wide network of community agencies and by utilizing a strength-based approach to client engagement.
