Who We Are
The mission of Headway of WNY is to ensure that individuals in Western New York with brain injuries, other disabilities, and seniors have access to advocacy, resources, and support systems to enable them to live as independently as possible, assisting them in delaying or eliminating the need for nursing home care. We seek to educate the broader community about the causes, consequences, and means of prevention of brain injury.
What We Do
Referrals/Resources
We help link individuals to professional services, facilities, and programs. We publish a Resource Guide for Brain Injury for Veterans and non-Veterans, listing services in the WNY area. We publish an informational newsletter and have speakers on topics of interest.
Support/Support Groups
Support is being provided by volunteers on a 1:1 basis in person and by phone. Groups meet regularly to provide support for survivors of brain injury, including groups for peers, caregivers, those dually diagnosed with brain injury and mental health issues, as well as for Veterans.
Education/Advocacy
We advocate for better services for TBI survivors. We are developing educational events or a speakers bureau to have talks with schools, community agencies, and other groups on topics related to brain injury, awareness, and prevention.
