Who We Are

We build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.

Through shelter we empower.

Mission:

Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope.

Mission Vision:

A world where everyone has a decent place to live.

Habitat for Humanity Niagara Area has an open-door policy: All who believe that everyone needs a decent, affordable place to live are welcome to help with the work, regardless of race, religion, age, gender, political views or any of the other distinctions that too often divide people. In short, Habitat welcomes volunteers and supporters from all backgrounds and also serves people in need of decent housing regardless of race or religion. As a matter of policy, Habitat for Humanity International and its affiliated organizations do not proselytize. This means that Habitat will not offer assistance on the expressed or implied condition that people must either adhere to or convert to a particular faith, or listen and respond to messaging designed to induce conversion to a particular faith.

What We Do

Niagara Area Habitat for Humanity makes homeownership possible for local families. Since 1993, we have helped 29 families in achieving their dream of homeownership. Families in Niagara Area Habitat's homebuyer program are able to purchase a decent, safe, affordable home. This is attainable for low-income families because Niagara Area Habitat subsidizes the cost of the house through grants, donations, and volunteer labor. The homebuyer repays an low-interest, 30-year mortgage, which supports the Fund for Humanity, a revolving account used to build additional homes

We give a hand up, not a hand out. Working closely with families in our homebuyer program, we help to prepare them for the challenges that go along with owning a house. Families are required to complete 500 hours of “sweat equity”, a term used to describe the work completed by future homeowners towards the construction and purchase of their homes. Families help to build their house, and must also attend budgeting and first-time homebuyer classes.
