Who We Are
The Niagara County Historical Society (Niagara History Center) presents a glimpse of area life in Niagara County over the last 175 years at its three sites. The Outwater Memorial Building, 215 Niagara Street, Lockport, NY, is the headquarters for the Niagara County Historical Society. This 1863 brick home features a Victorian Parlor, Historic Pantry, Old Toy Room, the Civil War Room and a Changing Exhibit Room. The Erie Canal Discovery Center, 24 Church Street, and Col. William Bond/Jesse Hawley House, 143 Ontario Street, are also part of the Niagara County Historical Society museum organization.
Mission Statement & Vision Statement
The role of the Niagara County Historical Society is to promote the cultural heritage related to the Erie Canal and the rich history of Niagara County. We provide educational opportunities through multi-media programs, written publications, and museum tours while maintaining an archives and artifact collection. The society works cooperatively with other organizations to accomplish its goals.
The Niagara County Historical Society makes local history a vital part of community life by actively connecting Niagara County’s past and present with its future.
Artistic/Cultural Vision
We work to preserve arts and culture for future generations through classes, workshops, performances, exhibits, programming and publications.
