Volunteer: Meal Delivery Volunteer (Erie County)

Volunteers are needed to deliver meals to our homebound neighbors in need throughout Erie and Niagara counties, especially within the City of Buffalo! As a home-delivered meal volunteer, you will help to enrich the lives of homebound seniors and disabled individuals by enabling them to maintain their dignity and independence.

It takes approximately an hour of your day to deliver meals, and you can volunteer as frequently as you wish. Depending on the home-delivered meal site you are placed at, your volunteer shift will begin anywhere between 10:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m., FeedMore WNY has home-delivered meal opportunities Mondays through Fridays in both Erie and Niagara counties.

All volunteers, who are 18 or older, will be required to fill out a background check, which will be sent electronically after application approval. Volunteers under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult, and those 16 or older are able to participate on their own.

To take a look at what meal delivery looks like please watch our training video (please, note that no masks are being worn as this video was made prior to COVID) Click here!

The health and safety of our volunteers are top priorities. To ensure that we are keeping all of our volunteers safe we are asking anyone who has recently tested positive for COVID-19, or who is symptomatic to please stay home for the recommended five day period or until symptoms subside. As well as we ask that if you were recently exposed to someone with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 and you are unvaccinated, or vaccinated and showing symptoms, that you stay home for the recommended five days and please reschedule your volunteer shift.

Q: Who should volunteer?
A: Anyone looking to make a difference! Volunteering is a great opportunity for retirees, college students, business professionals, teachers, shift workers, stay-at-home moms and dads, church groups and others.

Q: Are there any requirements for volunteers?

Volunteer: Adopt-A-Route Program

Delivering meals to our neighbors as part of the Adopt-A-Route program is an easy and efficient way for companies and groups to give back to the community. It helps individuals find time to give back—no matter how busy someone’s schedule may be. Plus, it makes people feel good and helps cement relationships within a team.

Our Adopt-A-Route (AAR) partners volunteer in a similar manner to our regular home delivered meal volunteers.  They commit to taking on the same route out of a particular site on a set schedule (i.e. once a week, once a month, etc.).  The great thing about our (AAR) program is that it is a minimal time commitment for each individual within the group. Only two group members deliver each scheduled day, therefore, group members may only have to deliver a maximum of once a month if there are 8 volunteers per group.

Our Adopt-A-Route program offers flexible scheduling to fit the time requirements of your company or community group. Opportunities are available in Niagara and Erie counties.

Learn more here: https://www.feedmorewny.org/get-involved/volunteer/volunteer-signup-form/, or email Kyle Dillman at kdillman@feedmorewny.org, with any questions.

Volunteer: Angel Card Program

Volunteers are needed to assist with FeedMore WNY's Angel Card program! Throughout the year we often distribute greeting cards, that community members have made and donated, to our home delivered meal clients. It is a way to lift our clients' spirits and put a smile on their face! This project can be done remotely, and cards can be handmade, created on a computer or even store bought and  then decorated further. We just require that none of the cards are dated, that they do not have any offensive language on them and that they are not addressed to anyone specific.  Cards can be for any holiday or general purpose, but we do ask that cards are not specific to any particular religious holiday (i.e. get well soon cards, birthday cards, cards saying: happy fall, or happy holidays, etc.). If providing envelopes with your cards please do not seal them.

Once completed, cards can either be dropped off (between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday) at 100 James E Casey Drive Buffalo 14206, or mailed.  Cards can also be dropped off on Saturdays (between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.) at 91 Holt Street, Buffalo 14206.

Learn more about this program by contacting Kyle Dillman at kdillman@feedmorewny.org.

Volunteer: Companion Calls

Volunteers are needed to help make companion calls to our homebound neighbors! Companion Calls are opportunities to check in with FeedMore WNY's home-delivered meal clients to ensure they are staying well, and to provide them with a friendly conversation. Many of FeedMore WNY's clients live on their own and are fairly isolated, and these phone calls help to combat that isolation and provide our homebound neighbors with some socialization.

Volunteers must be 18 or older to participate in this opportunity, and will be required to come into the Holt Street office to make these phone calls. Training will be provided onsite at the beginning of the shift. All volunteer rules and expectations can be accessed here!
