Volunteer: Young Adult Leader

Position Description: The Young Adult Leader plays a critical role in the overall mission of St. Paul’s House. They are responsible for the implementation of the vision, strategy, and practical elements of many programs supporting youth, the elderly, and the homeless. Our goal is to foster growth in their relationship with God and equip them with tools to mature in their faith.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Establish and foster relationships with staff, volunteers, parents, and the community. Participate in bible study lessons for children and teenagers with creativity and zeal.  Lead monthly prayer on rotation with other housemates. Participate in leadership meetings with the Interim Executive Director. Help Heartbeat Group youth form a proper Christian worldview with real conversations directed at secular and Christian living. Motivate youth to demonstrate a Christ-like attitude to peers and the unchurched.  Active member of St. Paul’s House Team; engage in round-table discussions on Christian topics and our role in current culture. Partake in NYC outreaches of choice via HFNY affiliates; including house outreaches on select Saturdays. On call for monthly food bank drop-offs at the house. Support the financial obligations of the ministry through monthly love offerings. Provide pertinent information concerning youth ministry operations and trends. Help with social events, fellowship, retreats, and summer activities for youth. Participate in pre-service devotions and prayer during Creighton’s Café operations. Report bi-weekly to the Student Volunteer Director with summary details of programs, upcoming event details and other concerns.  Attend any leadership development courses on-location, virtually, or at the host site. Assist with food programs: help with incoming food shipments (City Harvest, Pret-A-Manger); sort canned goods, set-up, and clean-up, collect new patrons’ information, etc. Complete necessary onboarding paperwork (Food Handlers course, NYC Fingerprinting, etc.)

Be a born-again Christian and have a developing relationship with God Be a role model to the youth  Shows commitment to excellence of programs Demonstrate leadership skills  Flexible and adaptable Team player and teachable Self-disciplined with time, and spiritual, physical, and emotional health Meets schedules and timelines Have a desire to serve inner-city youth and marginalized groups  Effectively communicate with volunteers, patrons, student volunteers, and families A range of creativity and latitude Self-motivated and can work independently with minimal supervision and produce tangible results Organizational skills, a systematic thinker Other skills: strategic planning, written communication, conflict resolution, multitasking, project management, technical, digital A Christian committed to St. Paul’s House statement of faith; willing to serve Christ and His Church; heart for people Previous experience, professional training, educational experience a plus
