Volunteer: Domestic Violence Survivor Support / Mentor

RAHAMA, or Resources And Help Against Marital Abuse, is looking for socially conscious and culturally competent individuals to act as mentors to our clients. Our clients are survivors of domestic violence that belong to the immigrant and refugee communities. RAHAMA is looking for individuals to serve as an additional resource and who can provide our survivors with one-on-one support as they rebuild their lives. Support services include (but are not limited to) teaching mentees how to use the public transport system, how to open a bank account and create a budget, where to find emergency services, and an occasional medical appointment accompaniment.

Responsibilities include:

Check-ins via phone/text Supportive listening Additional responsibilities will be on a individual basis and may include transportation and shopping assistance along with some accompaniment to medical appointments.

Qualifications

Driver's License (required) Bilingual English/Arabic or English/Farsi (preferred)

Minimum 6 month commitment required. Due to the nature of our work, all volunteers are required to undergo a background and reference check. Pre-screened volunteer mentors must also attend an orientation prior to being assigned a mentee. Volunteers will be contacted on a case-by-case basis. Volunteer: Remote Interpretation Services

We are looking for socially aware and culturally competent individuals as many of our clients are from the immigrant and refugee communities. 

Responsibilities include:

Interpretation of the following languages Arabic, Farsi, Hindi/Urdu, Somali, Swahili, Bengali, and/or Burmese. Knowledge of the dialects of these languages is greatly appreciated, but not required. Clarifying any confusion between staff and clients. Supportive Listening

Due to the nature of our work, all volunteers are required to undergo a background and reference check. Trauma-Informed Training will be provided prior to beginning one's service.  Volunteers will be contacted on a case-by-case basis. Volunteer: Donation Closet Organizer

We are calling for all undergraduate students who are looking for easy service hours that will make a huge impact! If you are passionate about thrifting, donating, or organization, we have the position for you! We have a storage unit full of household items, kitchenware, clothing, and hygiene products that need constant organizing and delivery to our clients!

Volunteer duties will include: 

Taking inventory of the storage room Organizing items by size and/or type Tracking items that are donated and ensuring they are inventoried and placed in the appropriate area Working alongside our Case Manager to pair the client's needs with what we have available for them Driving to donor's houses to pick-up donated goods

Volunteer Requirements:

Female 18 years of age or older Undergraduate student (preferred) Willing to work 5 hours a week No previous volunteer experience required
