The Head Start Program is an early childhood and preschool program for income-eligible families of children birth to five years old. There are currently seven Early Head Start/Head Start Centers located in Cuba, Friendship, Belfast, Bolivar, Belmont and Wellsville, including a center in the Wellsville Elementary School.
- Volunteering in classrooms to read books,
- Assist with classroom activities
- Assist with preparing meals and snacks for Head Start children
- Help staff monitor and interact with kids on the playground
- Lead outdoor activities with children
- Help children learn to tie their shoes, zip coats, etc.
- Cleaning and sanitizing
- Assist with outreach events (parades, etc)
- Maintenance and groundwork (lawn mowing, painting, staining, light repair)
- Clerical work including filing, data entry, and other recruitment material development
- Design brochures;
- Cleaning of buses and general storage areas
- Sorting and organizing books for our quarterly book distributions
- Interns studying early childhood education, human services, psychology, computer technology, business administration and management, marketing and advertising, art (to do murals in classrooms and general areas) and finance are needed.
- Certified speech therapists are needed for child speech screenings
