Requirements:

Loving families are needed in the Rochester/Buffalo area this summer. Host a French or German exchange student for 3 -6 weeks and help make these students dream come true! This is a great way to learn about the French and German culture, create lifelong friendships and increase your children's cultural awareness. If you have a passion for education and learning about the world's different cultures, we want to hear from you!

German Summer Homestay Dates: June 22-Aug 3 OR July 17- Aug 7

French Summer Homestay Dates: July 8-29

Program overview:

The program starts during the summer and lasts for approximately 3 or 6 weeks.

Students will fully immerse into an American host family.

Homestay with volunteer host families, usually in homes with children.

Each host family must be screened and vetted being the student is placed.

Exchange students and host families will be supported by NISE staff. 

Student Overview:

Students are selected from all over German and France.

Students are 13-17 years old. 

English levels range from intermediate to advanced. 

Student profiles will be provided to host families. 

Students will have complete medical/liability coverage while on the program. 

Students will come with their own spending money. 

Students can vacation with their host family and cover their portion of the expenses. 

Host Family Overview:

Each interested host family must complete a host family application. 

Each family member 18 years or older must complete a background check. 

Home visit, interview, and 2 references are required and completed by a trained and screened staff member. 

Program staff will prepare host families for hosting with an orientation. 

Host families are to provide their student with room and board = 3 meals/day and their own bed.

Oregon, Washington, Michigan, New York, Colorado, Arizona, North Carolina, California.

CANOPY OF NEIGHBORS 

Volunteers are needed deliver meals throughout Niagara County to clients in their homes. Pick up locations for these lunches are throughout the county. 

If you are Age 55 or older with some extra time to offer to others then you are eligible to join the RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) and receive program benefits also.

As an all-volunteer organization, we need volunteers to help us with fundraisers. Currently, we do three ongoing fundraisers:  a Mother's Day soy candle sale; a Christmas soy candle sale, and Delta Sonic car wash tickets.  We welcome volunteers who could help us reach a wider audience for these fundraisers. 

We also welcome volunteers interested in suggesting additional fundraisers and helping us organize and execute them.  You can do as much or as little as you like; we welcome all help with this task.

We have spoken to many area Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs (the complete list is at http://www.globalafricanvillage.org/events.html).  However, there may be many other groups looking for guest speakers.  Help Public Relations Director Sharon Green connect with those groups.  They could include social clubs, book clubs, Lions Clubs, Zonta Clubs, school groups, college classes, or Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops.

This volunteer opportunity could be as simple as providing suggestions and contact information, or it could involve researching WNY groups that need guest speakers.  It's up to you.

Global African Village is a small, all-volunteer nonprofit doing humanitarian work in rural Uganda.

Help us connect with high school and college students, clubs, and groups needing to complete service hours. 

We have no office or staff; just three of us run Global African Village outside our full-time jobs in other fields.  This means that our time to research and make phone calls is rather limited. 

This volunteer opportunity involves researching and making outreach phone calls. You can do as much or as little as you'd like; we welcome any and all help with this task.

Global African Village is a small, all-volunteer nonprofit doing humanitarian work with the impoverished Bagishu people of rural Uganda.  We need volunteers to help us connect with WNY businesses who would like to partner with to do in-office fundraisers such as Loose Change Day or Dress Down Day.  We are also open to additional ideas.

The Necessary Shop distributes cleaning supplies and personal care to guests of Heart, Love & Soul.  Volunteers are needed to staff The Necessary Shop Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Translator needed for occasional written document translations from both Spanish to English and English to Spanish. Documents are typically short to medium length (1-3 pages). The documents are typically time sensitive and we request that they can be translated and returned to us within 12 to 24 hours. You will be translating social and environmental justice related information that is associated with our organization and many other global organizations and your words will be published for a global audience. Very good resume building activity. We typically ask for translations one to three times a month unless we are doing a specific media campaign and then it can be more.

Fluent Spanish and English a must. 

We are always looking to add to our group of volunteers.  We make and distribute essential baby items to ill and impoverished newborns in our area.  We give to local hospitals and family care centers.

If you sew, crochet, and/or knit we have an opportunity for you to help babies in Need.  We also need people who are experienced in advertising, writing newsletters and blogs and fundraising.

Newborns in Need of WNY provides essential baby items to ill and impoverished newborns in our area.  We are a national charity that is run entirely on donations and provide everything to the families free of charge.  We also are completely volunteer based.

We are in need of someone to assist with advertising, marketing and running fundraisers.  We gave been a chapter in the WNY area for 6 years and hold our meetings in Niagara county, in September we are expanding to Erie county.  We provide the care packages and items to hospitals and family care centers in both counties.  I am looking for someone to help me with getting more donations, monetarily and donated items.  Also to help with gaining more volunteers to help grow our chapter. 

Art Instructors needed to teach children and senior adults  art lessons. Part time, 1 hour
weekly art lessons taught at the Delavan Grider Community Center. Shifts are minimum 1 1/2 hours. Must have some art background, experience working with children and senior adults, reliable transportation, ability to lift & pull 10 - 20 lbs., time management & communication skills, reliable, friendly and upbeat personality, basic computer skills, access to internet, cell phone. Clothes Closet 

Volunteers needed Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Volunteers will be sorting through clothing and household items for suitability, then placing them in our “closet” for people to select.

CMI is very fortunate in the amount of donations we receive. On Wednesdays, a new drop off donation program has been instituted from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. During this time, volunteers would be accepting items from donors who drive up to the Mission and drop off their donations. Persons satisfying this shift would be taking items out of donor’s cars, and bringing them into our repository room to be sorted at a later time.  Because of the way we are accepting donations, contact is at a minimum, limiting exposure.  Currently, the shift is heavy from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. but we are anticipating it to become busier from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. as commuters learn about this opportunity.  It would be ideal for students needing volunteer hours and currently in hybrid or remote learning as they can bring their homework to work on.  Must be able to lift 40 pounds and perform bending and up and down movement repeatedly.

Memorial Medical Center seeking volunteer van drivers

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center is looking for volunteer drivers to transport patients to and from appointments in the hospital’s CARExpress van. 

 A valid driver’s license is required along with good people skills and a passion for  friendly customer service.

 Patients to be transported live in Niagara Falls and Wheatfield and have appointments at the hospital and the Summit Healthplex. All are ambulatory and require no assistance getting in or out of the van.

Community Services for the Developmentally Disabled is seeking a Volunteer to act as a mentor to people in our Self-Advocate program. The Clothing Closet Manager manages all donations received for Winnie's Closet at Delavan Grider Community Center. From receiving donations, completing monthly paperwork, supplying donators with tax forms and acknowledgements to donators, preparing displays including the hanging items. The manager will also solicit for donations of clothing and hangers seasonally.

Volunteers working in this capacity answer questions, provide information and direct people to cemetery locations they need, thus creating an atmosphere in the cemetery office that is caring, yet efficient.   Volunteers will need to be comfortable taking direction and working unassisted.

Twice a month our teams deliver food to 5 low income senior facilities in Cheektowaga NY.  Volunteers meet at the food pantry and as a team travel to one of the five locations to distribute food. Food is delivered to the sites using our 20' box truck however volunteers are responsible to get to and from the site to distribute food.

Volunteer hours range between 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on the 2nd & 4th Thursday evening each month.

Richardson Tour Chaperones and Docents are highly-trained volunteers who welcome visitors and lead site tours at the Richardson Olmsted Campus. Our Volunteer Patient Transporter will assist individuals who use wheelchairs or need help finding their way from Day Hab to the Clinic for scheduled appointments.  These sites are both located within our facility on Lakeshore Drive in Dunkirk NY.  Opportunities exist between the hours of 830am and 3pm Monday through Friday.

We are currently in need of volunteer tutors to assist 5th-7th grade students after school.  A tutor provides expertise, experience, and encouragement. All subjects are needed including (but not limited to): mathematics, language arts, reading, science, social studies, and history. You will receive direction from a member of our academic staff and work with a group of 1-3 students at a time on homework assignments, test prep, and supplemental educational projects from 716 Squash. No prior tutoring experience is required.  Whenever you are able to help out is appreciated! Mondays and Wednesdays we run 3pm-5:30pm. Tuesdays and Thursdays we run 3:45pm-6:00pm. Occasional Friday programming runs 3pm-5:30pm. We track hours and are always able to provide recommendations or sign off on tracking for school requirements. 

We are looking for someone to take charge of our volunteer scheduling and follow-up for serving at our pantry location and for special events throughout the year. Computer experience helpful but not required.

The Gardens of Compassion is a unique community garden. We grow vegetables and herbs for use in the Community Soup Kitchen at Community Missions in Niagara Falls, Little Wonders Early Childhood Education Center and Day Care, and of course for our gardeners as well. The Gardens of Compassion are also focused on reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness and exploring our common responsibility to care for creation.

Volunteers are need to help are for the gardens as follows:

Monday is our Group Gardening Day: 10:00 AM - Noon. Come and join volunteers from Community Missions' mental health programs. Group garden day includes gardening time, gardening education, nutrition education, cooking demos, discussion about caring for creation from various cultural perspectives. Rain or shine. No gardening on Holidays.

Weekly Garden Care: Any Time!  We need volunteer gardeners through out the growing season to water and weed the gardens. Gardeners are welcome to come at any time that is convenient for them. We are a small but growing not for profit that is looking for an experienced bookkeeper to help us manage our growing income and expenses. We seek a volunteer who is familiar with not for profit bookkeeping, and can produce produce quarterly statements, an annual statement, and file our form 990. Elysa Gardner of USA Today called the show a “fountain of youth that will makes many a grown-up feel like a kid again.” This stage musical combines elements of Disney’s most beloved films with material inspired by P.L. Travers’ books.

Located in the heart of the Village of Kenmore, our education center is equipped with an academic atmosphere that strives to provide exceptional programming for the students we serve. 

Our High School Equivalency class is currently in need of a retired math teacher or math expert to assist struggling students with concepts related to mastery on the GED exam.

The High School Equivalency program runs Monday through Friday 9:00am-Noon and Tuesday/Thursday 6:00pm-9:00pm year round.

This volunteer opportunity is perfect for the retired English or Social Studies/Government teacher seeking to make a small commitment that would have a vast impact on the immigrants and refugees the Department serves. 

Preparing to tackle the Citizenship process is no easy feat. Our Department and Community has a number of residents eligible or soon-to-be eligible for Citizenship in the United States. To our students, this is an extreme honor that they take very seriously.

Volunteer would choose 1 day a week for 2 hours to facilitate small-group instruction to walk candidates through the Citizenship process. Materials and supplies along with space and technology are provided by the Department.

English classes run year round at Kenmore Middle School Monday - Friday 9:30am-12:30pm, and at Franklin Middle School Monday through Thursday 4:30pm-7:30pm. This volunteer opportunity is for the school year.

RAHAMA, or Resources And Help Against Marital Abuse, is looking for socially conscious and culturally competent individuals to act as mentors to our clients. Our clients are survivors of domestic violence that belong to the immigrant and refugee communities. RAHAMA is looking for individuals to serve as an additional resource and who can provide our survivors with one-on-one support as they rebuild their lives. Support services include (but are not limited to) teaching mentees how to use the public transport system, how to open a bank account and create a budget, where to find emergency services, and an occasional medical appointment accompaniment.

Minimum 6 month commitment required. Due to the nature of our work, all volunteers are required to undergo a background and reference check. Pre-screened volunteer mentors must also attend an orientation prior to being assigned a mentee. Volunteers will be contacted on a case-by-case basis. City Bikes is looking for volunteers to assist in basic bike repair and mentoring our young men. Every Thursday from 330-6pm. 

City Bikes program offers young men the opportunity to develop and perfect job skills, be a part of a team, and gain knowledge on bike repair and sales. Used bikes are donated for repair and resale. Our young men learn all aspects of the business from actual repair, pricing, customer service and more.

Peace Club is a multi faceted program that tends to all needs of a student after the school day. Our volunteers participate in activities such as board games, crafts, gym time, homework help, reading books and overall relationship building. Come join the "littles" of Peace and make an Impact! 

Peace Club, formerly Homework Club, provides after school homework support, healthy snacks, engaging educational activities, life skills, and a variety of student-driven enrichment activities for our K - 6th grade students. This include arts and crafts, science experiments, puzzles and games, and many group projects.

Having a friend can make all the difference to someone who feels anxious, sad, or lonely. Their isolation could be the result of any number, or combination, of life circumstances. A Compeer Friend helps them socially, becoming a positive role model, helping raise self-esteem, increasing social and communication skills, and encouraging independence.

We match volunteers with youth (ages 6-21), adults (22-59) and older adults (ages 60+) living in Erie County, New York who live with mental illness. Please note most of our clients waiting for a friend live in the City of Buffalo, with some clients living in the suburbs around the county. (We also have an affiliate in Niagara County as well and we would be happy to connect you with them!)

Volunteer screening includes an interview, references, background checks (including fingerprints, local police clearance, child abuse registry, and national sex offender registry), mental health first aid training and volunteer orientation.

Volunteer Friends must be 18 years of age, complete our screening process and onboarding process. Volunteer Friends are asked to spend four hours per month with their Friend and commit to one year of service. Visits between friends take place virtually, over the phone, and primarily in person.

Evangel Food Pantry is looking for volunteers to help meet the needs of our client base.  

We are located at 8180 Greiner Road (1/2 Mile from Greiner, Transit, Maple intersection) 

We are helping over 1000 people per month fight hunger.  

We are a client choice pantry. We fill the shelves and they pick what is best for them of what is available.

The planning committee needs volunteers dedicated to helping in areas such as food, community outreach, fundraising, kids and women's activities, soccer, and welcomes other ideas that can help make our 10th annual event a success.

The Longest Day is a fundraising campaign that benefits The Alzheimer’s Association of Western New York. It is made up of numerous events and activities which are hosted by community members and focused on the summer solstice, June 20, 2020.

The Longest Day Volunteer Committee is needed to recruit and engage fundraising teams. This committee will help to connect our organization to potential fundraisers, inspire them to join our cause, then coach them to host successful fundraising events.

With the help of our staff and committee members, teams create their own fundraising event or activity to raise funds, honor those facing the disease and remember those we’ve lost. While the summer solstice is the longest day of the year, participants may choose any day to hold this fundraising event.

While raising thousands of dollars toward the mission of The Alzheimer’s Association, this campaign symbolizes the challenging journey of those living with the disease and their caregivers - to whom everyday may feel like The Longest Day.

Algonquin Sports for Kids is a non-profit organization that provides low-cost sports programming to youth in underserved communities across the city. Currently, we are looking to fill coaching positions for our tennis program. Coaches will be given the equipment and curriculum work with children in afterschool programs, giving them the opportunity to try a new sport. This position can be used as volunteer hours or as a paid position, contingent upon the submission of satisfactory proof of identity and legal authorization to work in the United States. In addition, it is required that all coaches pass the USTA Net Generation certification and background check.

A Road to Recovery volunteer driver provides people with transportation to and from their cancer-related treatment appointments. Drivers donate their time and the use of their personal vehicles to help ensure that people with cancer get the lifesaving treatments they need.

This position is very flexible and is based upon volunteer availability. Weekly time commitment varies by area. Rides are typically requested Monday-Friday during the hours of 7:00am and 7:00pm.

Van Driver/Assistant

Description: To drive the Hospital van and provide transportation for our clients/customers to come to Mount St. Mary's Hospital. Pick up would be in eastern Niagara County and the City of Niagara Falls. 

Volunteer Hours: Van 1 would run Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4 pm;

with two (2) shifts each day, 8 am to noon and noon to 4 pm.  Pick-ups would be scheduled in advance. Van 2 would run Monday – Friday (except Thursday) beginning at 8:30 am – approx. 1 pm.

Drivers: A driver or server arrives at 1920 18th St. at 11:00 a.m., picks up the meals in coolers and hot bags, takes them to their car, delivers following the easy to follow route sheet, then returns the equipment back to Niagara Falls Meals on Wheels. Generally you will be finished around 12:15p.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Niagara County Office for the Aging provides several direct services to older adults in Niagara County.  Our most vulnerable clients are typically our clients who receive home delivered meals due to lack of support from friends and family, are frail or disabled, and unable to drive.  These clients also find it difficult to keep up with their yards and shovel the snow from their driveway and sidewalk so their meals can be delivered.

RAHAMA, or Resources and Help Against Marital Abuse is a non-profit founded on Islamic principles dedicated to supporting women and children who are victims of domestic violence. We are looking for socially aware and culturally competent individuals as many of our clients are from the immigrant and refugee communities.

Program assistants are expected to be more flexible and may be assigned a variety of roles. Tasks will vary day-to-day based on the needs of the YAP. Program assistants will be asked to perform tasks such as filing, making phone calls, conducting research, performing data entry, acting as a classroom assistant, helping set up lunch.

We are more flexible with scheduling for Program Assistants’ volunteer time. However, it is still extremely important that you notify us of your availability and are in regular communication with the Youth Program Volunteer Coordinator. We expect that you are committed to volunteering for the agreed upon dates and times. During the school year, program assistants can volunteer in 2 to 3 hour time increments between 10.30 AM to 6.30 PM. During the summer, these shifts can be scheduled in the range of 9 AM to 5 PM. 

BCAT hosts a variety of events throughout the year. These include Food is Art, Friends and Family Night, the annual fundraising event, Spotlight on Youth, open mic nights, and our gallery openings. Volunteers will be expected to help with preparation and day-of-event tasks. This will include setting up tables, setting up food, helping carry equipment, helping to facilitate activities, cleaning up, etc. Dates and times vary.

Are you looking for something fulfilling to spend your time doing? Do you love working with your hands, using tools, and sharing your skills while helping other people? Become a Construction Crew Chief with Niagara Area Habitat for Humanity!

Volunteer Crew Chiefs are an essential part of our team, leading small groups of unskilled volunteers at Habitat build sites to accomplish a specific scope of work. Their task is to be clear about the assignment (e.g. put up siding, install windows, etc.) and then train and oversee the volunteers on their “team” in executing that task. A Crew Chief should be a people person, possess some basic construction aptitude, enjoy leadership, and be able to learn tasks quickly and then demonstrate those tasks to others.

Crew Chiefs commit to serving two days per month for at least one year and work closely with our Construction Manager. You will gain construction and leadership skills through this unique experience, and help to supervise small groups of volunteers to increase Niagara Area Habitat’s volunteer capacity and help us to build more homes!

The Refugee and Asylee Mentoring Program (RAMP) at Journey’s End Refugee Services serves refugees, asylees, and SIV holders between the ages of 18 to 24 who have lived in the US for less than 5 years by pairing them with mentors who can help them achieve their goals.

We encourage people of any background to apply to be mentors, especially those who have been part of the refugee community.

The RAMP program will host group events, workshops, and organize field trips that focus on community integration, academic support, career development, and health and financial literacy.

The time commitment for mentors is 1 hour a week. We are looking for a minimum 9 month commitment to the program. The RAMP program will facilitate group events every week where mentors can complete their one hour. Mentors can also choose their own schedule that works for them and their mentee. 

This project provides a fulfilling opportunity for a team of volunteers (minimum 10-12 people) to collaboratively create a safe and welcoming home environment for a family of refugees who are scheduled to arrive in Buffalo, NY in the near future.

The bulk of this project will consist of collecting new and gently used household items to fill the apartment with. You have until the day of the home set-up to complete your collection (the amount of time will vary). Each team is provided with a list of items needed to complete the home set-up and detailed instructions to ensure that your experience goes smoothly and is meaningful for volunteers.

Here are some ideas to get you started: Reach out to your existing networks, and ask if they have any of the items needed on hand, or if they might be willing to sponsor your project with a monetary donation or by purchasing one of the items. Many of these items can be found at a thrift store or dollar store. Research local community closets, furniture warehouses, or other organizations to see if they might be willing to help. We encourage you and your team to be creative with this process, and have fun with it!

Please follow the list of items and instructions provided very closely, so that you collect quality items that are needed, and don’t over or under-collect. We are always here to answer your questions or address your concerns.

We are typically notified of family arrival dates about two weeks prior to arrival, but often times less. Once an apartment is secured for the family, a member of our volunteer services team will be in contact with you to discuss the best days for your team to set up the apartment. We suggest 2 days- one for cleaning and one for set-up.
