The Clothing Closet Manager manages all donations received for Winnie's Closet at Delavan Grider Community Center. From receiving donations, completing monthly paperwork, supplying donators with tax forms and acknowledgements to donators, preparing displays including the hanging items. The manager will also solicit for donations of clothing and hangers seasonally.

We are in need of volunteers to help with Infusion Clinic from 10-2 Monday-Friday (help with serving food and assisting with food packages and making sure they have blankets and are comfortable during their treatment.). The Administrative Support Volunteer assists the administrative staff as needed. These duties may be performed in the office. The Volunteer is responsible for welcoming guests to the cemetery and via telephone. Volunteers working in this capacity answer questions, provide information and direct people to cemetery locations they need, thus creating an atmosphere in the cemetery office that is caring, yet efficient.   Volunteers will need to be comfortable taking direction and working unassisted.  

Pleasant and enjoyable atmosphere. 

Hours are flexible, would prefer 10am-2pm, once or twice a week.  Searching for 2-3 volunteers.

Twice a month our teams deliver food to 5 low income senior facilities in Cheektowaga NY.  Volunteers meet at the food pantry and as a team travel to one of the five locations to distribute food. Food is delivered to the sites using our 20' box truck however volunteers are responsible to get to and from the site to distribute food.

Volunteer hours range between 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on the 2nd & 4th Thursday evening each month.

The Richardson Olmsted Campus seeks volunteers to join its incredible tour team! Richardson Tour Chaperones and Docents are highly-trained volunteers who welcome visitors and lead site tours at the Richardson Olmsted Campus. These tours provide access to an iconic Buffalo building that has been locked away for decades and increase awareness about the Richardson’s rich history, current redevelopment, and architectural significance.

Our Volunteer Patient Transporter will assist individuals who use wheelchairs or need help finding their way from Day Hab to the Clinic for scheduled appointments.  These sites are both located within our facility on Lakeshore Drive in Dunkirk NY.  Opportunities exist between the hours of 830am and 3pm Monday through Friday.

If you have a desire to improve the lives of others, The Resource Center has volunteer opportunities for you.  You could teach arts and crafts to people at one of our day programs in Jamestown and Dunkirk, or spend time reading or sharing your hobby with someone who lives in one of the 30 homes that The Resource Center operates throughout Chautauqua County.  By volunteering at The Resource Center, you’ll be giving yourself an invaluable gift – the satisfaction of knowing that your kindness has made a real difference in the lives of people with disabilities.

We are currently in need of volunteer tutors to assist 5th-7th grade students after school.  A tutor provides expertise, experience, and encouragement. All subjects are needed including (but not limited to): mathematics, language arts, reading, science, social studies, and history. You will receive direction from a member of our academic staff and work with a group of 1-3 students at a time on homework assignments, test prep, and supplemental educational projects from 716 Squash. No prior tutoring experience is required.  Whenever you are able to help out is appreciated! Mondays and Wednesdays we run 3pm-5:30pm. Tuesdays and Thursdays we run 3:45pm-6:00pm. Occasional Friday programming runs 3pm-5:30pm. We track hours and are always able to provide recommendations or sign off on tracking for school requirements. 

We are looking for someone to take charge of our volunteer scheduling and follow-up for serving at our pantry location and for special events throughout the year. Computer experience helpful but not required.

The Gardens of Compassion is a unique community garden. We grow vegetables and herbs for use in the Community Soup Kitchen at Community Missions in Niagara Falls, Little Wonders Early Childhood Education Center and Day Care, and of course for our gardeners as well. The Gardens of Compassion are also focused on reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness and exploring our common responsibility to care for creation.

Volunteers are need to help are for the gardens as follows:

Monday is our Group Gardening Day: 10:00 AM - Noon. Come and join volunteers from Community Missions' mental health programs. Group garden day includes gardening time, gardening education, nutrition education, cooking demos, discussion about caring for creation from various cultural perspectives. Rain or shine. No gardening on Holidays.

Weekly Garden Care: Any Time!  We need volunteer gardeners through out the growing season to water and weed the gardens. Gardeners are welcome to come at any time that is convenient for them. Our High School Equivalency class is currently in need of a retired math teacher or math expert to assist struggling students with concepts related to mastery on the GED exam.

This volunteer opportunity is perfect for the retired English or Social Studies/Government teacher seeking to make a small commitment that would have a vast impact on the immigrants and refugees the Department serves. 

Preparing to tackle the Citizenship process is no easy feat. Our Department and Community has a number of residents eligible or soon-to-be eligible for Citizenship in the United States. To our students, this is an extreme honor that they take very seriously.

Volunteer would choose 1 day a week for 2 hours to facilitate small-group instruction to walk candidates through the Citizenship process. Materials and supplies along with space and technology are provided by the Department.

English classes run year round at Kenmore Middle School Monday - Friday 9:30am-12:30pm, and at Franklin Middle School Monday through Thursday 4:30pm-7:30pm. This volunteer opportunity is for the school year.

RAHAMA, or Resources And Help Against Marital Abuse, is looking for socially conscious and culturally competent individuals to act as mentors to our clients. Our clients are survivors of domestic violence that belong to the immigrant and refugee communities. RAHAMA is looking for individuals to serve as an additional resource and who can provide our survivors with one-on-one support as they rebuild their lives. Support services include (but are not limited to) teaching mentees how to use the public transport system, how to open a bank account and create a budget, where to find emergency services, and an occasional medical appointment accompaniment.

Minimum 6 month commitment required. Due to the nature of our work, all volunteers are required to undergo a background and reference check. City Bikes is looking for volunteers to assist in basic bike repair and mentoring our young men. Every Thursday from 330-6pm. 

City Bikes program offers young men the opportunity to develop and perfect job skills, be a part of a team, and gain knowledge on bike repair and sales. Used bikes are donated for repair and resale. Our young men learn all aspects of the business from actual repair, pricing, customer service and more.

How often do you call upon your friends to get a bite to eat or a cup of coffee? Maybe you go see a movie or just chat on the phone to feel connected and supported. You can be that friend for someone living with a mental health diagnosis!

Having a friend can make all the difference to someone who feels anxious, sad, or lonely. Their isolation could be the result of any number, or combination, of life circumstances. A Compeer Friend helps them socially, becoming a positive role model, helping raise self-esteem, increasing social and communication skills, and encouraging independence.

We match volunteers with youth (ages 6-21), adults (22-59) and older adults (ages 60+) living in Erie County, New York who live with mental illness. Please note most of our clients waiting for a friend live in the City of Buffalo, with some clients living in the suburbs around the county. (We also have an affiliate in Niagara County as well and we would be happy to connect you with them!)

Volunteer screening includes an interview, references, background checks (including fingerprints, local police clearance, child abuse registry, and national sex offender registry), mental health first aid training and volunteer orientation.

Volunteer Friends must be 18 years of age, complete our screening process and onboarding process. Volunteer Friends are asked to spend four hours per month with their Friend and commit to one year of service. Visits between friends take place virtually, over the phone, and primarily in person.

Evangel Food Pantry is looking for volunteers to help meet the needs of our client base.

We are helping over 1000 people per month fight hunger.  

We are a client choice pantry. We fill the shelves and they pick what is best for them of what is available.

Some animals are not ready to be adopted immediately. In addition to needing extra love and care, they have to learn to trust people and to live in a human environment. Foster parents help these animals by providing a temporary home until the animal is ready for adoption.

You feel good, your shelter or rescue group helps more animals, and your foster pet is happy, healthy, and well-socialized. Talk about win-win-win!

We need people interested in helping to plan the 10th Annual World Refugee Day in WNY scheduled for June 29, 2019!

The planning committee needs volunteers dedicated to helping in areas such as food, community outreach, fundraising, kids and women's activities, soccer, and welcomes other ideas that can help make our 10th annual event a success.

The Longest Day is a fundraising campaign that benefits The Alzheimer’s Association of Western New York. It is made up of numerous events and activities which are hosted by community members and focused on the summer solstice, June 20, 2020.

The Longest Day Volunteer Committee is needed to recruit and engage fundraising teams. This committee will help to connect our organization to potential fundraisers, inspire them to join our cause, then coach them to host successful fundraising events.

With the help of our staff and committee members, teams create their own fundraising event or activity to raise funds, honor those facing the disease and remember those we’ve lost. While the summer solstice is the longest day of the year, participants may choose any day to hold this fundraising event.

While raising thousands of dollars toward the mission of The Alzheimer’s Association, this campaign symbolizes the challenging journey of those living with the disease and their caregivers - to whom everyday may feel like The Longest Day.

Algonquin Sports for Kids is a non-profit organization that provides low-cost sports programming to youth in underserved communities across the city. Currently, we are looking to fill coaching positions for our tennis program. Coaches will be given the equipment and curriculum work with children in afterschool programs, giving them the opportunity to try a new sport. This position can be used as volunteer hours or as a paid position, contingent upon the submission of satisfactory proof of identity and legal authorization to work in the United States. In addition, it is required that all coaches pass the USTA Net Generation certification and background check.

A Road to Recovery volunteer driver provides people with transportation to and from their cancer-related treatment appointments. Drivers donate their time and the use of their personal vehicles to help ensure that people with cancer get the lifesaving treatments they need.

This position is very flexible and is based upon volunteer availability. Weekly time commitment varies by area. Rides are typically requested Monday-Friday during the hours of 7:00am and 7:00pm.

Van Driver/Assistant

Description: To drive the Hospital van and provide transportation for our clients/customers to come to Mount St. Mary's Hospital. Pick up would be in eastern Niagara County and the City of Niagara Falls. 

Volunteer Hours: Van 1 would run Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4 pm;

with two (2) shifts each day, 8 am to noon and noon to 4 pm.  Pick-ups would be scheduled in advance. Van 2 would run Monday – Friday (except Thursday) beginning at 8:30 am – approx. 1 pm.

Drivers: A driver or server arrives at 1920 18th St. at 11:00 a.m., picks up the meals in coolers and hot bags, takes them to their car, delivers following the easy to follow route sheet, then returns the equipment back to Niagara Falls Meals on Wheels. Generally you will be finished around 12:15p.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Niagara County Office for the Aging provides several direct services to older adults in Niagara County.  Our most vulnerable clients are typically our clients who receive home delivered meals due to lack of support from friends and family, are frail or disabled, and unable to drive.  These clients also find it difficult to keep up with their yards and shovel the snow from their driveway and sidewalk so their meals can be delivered.

RAHAMA, or Resources and Help Against Marital Abuse is a non-profit founded on Islamic principles dedicated to supporting women and children who are victims of domestic violence. We are looking for socially aware and culturally competent individuals as many of our clients are from the immigrant and refugee communities. 

Responsibilities include:

Due to the nature of our work, all volunteers are required to undergo a background and reference check. Trauma-Informed Training will be provided prior to beginning one's service.  Volunteers will be contacted on a case-by-case basis. Program assistants are expected to be more flexible and may be assigned a variety of roles. Tasks will vary day-to-day based on the needs of the YAP. Program assistants will be asked to perform tasks such as filing, making phone calls, conducting research, performing data entry, acting as a classroom assistant, helping set up lunch.

We are more flexible with scheduling for Program Assistants’ volunteer time. However, it is still extremely important that you notify us of your availability and are in regular communication with the Youth Program Volunteer Coordinator. We expect that you are committed to volunteering for the agreed upon dates and times. During the school year, program assistants can volunteer in 2 to 3 hour time increments between 10.30 AM to 6.30 PM. During the summer, these shifts can be scheduled in the range of 9 AM to 5 PM. 

BCAT hosts a variety of events throughout the year. These include Food is Art, Friends and Family Night, the annual fundraising event, Spotlight on Youth, open mic nights, and our gallery openings. Volunteers will be expected to help with preparation and day-of-event tasks. This will include setting up tables, setting up food, helping carry equipment, helping to facilitate activities, cleaning up, etc. Dates and times vary.

Volunteer Crew Chiefs are an essential part of our team, leading small groups of unskilled volunteers at Habitat build sites to accomplish a specific scope of work. Their task is to be clear about the assignment (e.g. put up siding, install windows, etc.) and then train and oversee the volunteers on their “team” in executing that task. A Crew Chief should be a people person, possess some basic construction aptitude, enjoy leadership, and be able to learn tasks quickly and then demonstrate those tasks to others.

Crew Chiefs commit to serving two days per month for at least one year and work closely with our Construction Manager. You will gain construction and leadership skills through this unique experience, and help to supervise small groups of volunteers to increase Niagara Area Habitat’s volunteer capacity and help us to build more homes!

The Refugee and Asylee Mentoring Program (RAMP) at Journey’s End Refugee Services serves refugees, asylees, and SIV holders between the ages of 18 to 24 who have lived in the US for less than 5 years by pairing them with mentors who can help them achieve their goals.

We encourage people of any background to apply to be mentors, especially those who have been part of the refugee community.

The RAMP program will host group events, workshops, and organize field trips that focus on community integration, academic support, career development, and health and financial literacy.

The time commitment for mentors is 1 hour a week. We are looking for a minimum 9 month commitment to the program. The RAMP program will facilitate group events every week where mentors can complete their one hour. Mentors can also choose their own schedule that works for them and their mentee. 

This project provides a fulfilling opportunity for a team of volunteers (minimum 10-12 people) to collaboratively create a safe and welcoming home environment for a family of refugees who are scheduled to arrive in Buffalo, NY in the near future.

The bulk of this project will consist of collecting new and gently used household items to fill the apartment with. You have until the day of the home set-up to complete your collection (the amount of time will vary). Each team is provided with a list of items needed to complete the home set-up and detailed instructions to ensure that your experience goes smoothly and is meaningful for volunteers.

Here are some ideas to get you started: Reach out to your existing networks, and ask if they have any of the items needed on hand, or if they might be willing to sponsor your project with a monetary donation or by purchasing one of the items. Many of these items can be found at a thrift store or dollar store. Research local community closets, furniture warehouses, or other organizations to see if they might be willing to help. We encourage you and your team to be creative with this process, and have fun with it!

Please follow the list of items and instructions provided very closely, so that you collect quality items that are needed, and don’t over or under-collect. We are always here to answer your questions or address your concerns.

We are typically notified of family arrival dates about two weeks prior to arrival, but often times less. Once an apartment is secured for the family, a member of our volunteer services team will be in contact with you to discuss the best days for your team to set up the apartment. We suggest 2 days- one for cleaning and one for set-up.

Delivering meals to our neighbors as part of the Adopt-A-Route program is an easy and efficient way for companies and groups to give back to the community. It helps individuals find time to give back—no matter how busy someone’s schedule may be. Plus, it makes people feel good and helps cement relationships within a team.

Our Adopt-A-Route (AAR) partners volunteer in a similar manner to our regular home delivered meal volunteers.  They commit to taking on the same route out of a particular site on a set schedule (i.e. once a week, once a month, etc.).  The great thing about our (AAR) program is that it is a minimal time commitment for each individual within the group. Only two group members deliver each scheduled day, therefore, group members may only have to deliver a maximum of once a month if there are 8 volunteers per group.

 Our Adopt-A-Route program offers flexible scheduling to fit the time requirements of your company or community group. Opportunities are available in Niagara and Erie counties.

Volunteers are needed to assist with FeedMore WNY's Angel Card program! Throughout the year we often distribute greeting cards, that community members have made and donated, to our home delivered meal clients. It is a way to lift our clients' spirits and put a smile on their face! This project can be done remotely, and cards can be handmade, created on a computer or even store bought and  then decorated further. We just require that none of the cards are dated, that they do not have any offensive language on them and that they are not addressed to anyone specific.  Cards can be for any holiday or general purpose, but we do ask that cards are not specific to any particular religious holiday (i.e. get well soon cards, birthday cards, cards saying: happy fall, or happy holidays, etc.). If providing envelopes with your cards please do not seal them. 

Once completed, cards can either be dropped off (between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday) at 100 James E Casey Drive Buffalo 14206, or mailed.  Cards can also be dropped off on Saturdays (between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.) at 91 Holt Street, Buffalo 14206.

Volunteers are needed to sort and pack donated food items to be distributed to community members in need. Volunteers may be required to lift light-weight to medium-weight boxes, volunteers have to be a minimum of 12 years of age and all volunteers between the ages of 12 and 15 will need to be accompanied by an adult. Please dress comfortably and wear closed-toe shoes.

Volunteer shifts are Tuesday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. (there are no Wednesday afternoon shifts, and Friday afternoon shifts in the summer run from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.).

Time commitment: One-time (minimum 2 shifts) to Short-term (3 months). Volunteers commit to spending at least two, 2-hour sessions with an individual or group of refugee clients, taking them on the bus and metro.

United Way of Buffalo & Erie County supports volunteer income tax preparation (VITA) through a network of partners in Erie County and Western New York. Under the auspices of the Internal Revenue Service, volunteers complete income taxes for low and moderate income individuals and families. This saves them the cost of preparation fees, and helps them claim resources such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Care Tax Credit. Free training is provided so that you are certified in how to prepare and review the tax returns. Remote online volunteering is available. While the busiest season is the traditional tax preparation time of January through mid April, volunteers are needed all year around to prepare returns that are not aligned with the traditional timetable. Individuals are needed both to prepare the taxes, and to help by making sure all documentation is in place. Stitch Buffalo is seeking a volunteer to assist in creating some short, simple videos to demonstrate hand embroidery techniques. This will involve planning shooting, basic editing, and uploading videos for on-line distribution via YouTube or social media.

COVID-19—We strive to provide a safe work environment. Masks are required in our facility and occupancy is limited. Aside from actually shooting the video, the rest of the process should be able to be accomplished remotely. We could potentially do shoots outdoors to increase safety.

Mutual aid networks are local, volunteer-run collectives of neighbors helping neighbors in any way they can.

Many of our neighbors are still unable to leave their homes due to being elderly, immunocompromised, or just unable to afford the groceries needed for their families

Grocery Volunteers will receive a grocery request including a Shopping List, Requester Name, and Delivery Address. The volunteer will shop for the requested items and deliver them to the Requester, and then Volunteers are reimbursed once grocery receipts are submitted.

As volunteer schedules change due to an ever changing economic and social landscape, we are always in need of individuals willing to add a few extra items or a list to their personal grocery runs. 

So far the Buffalo Mutual Aid Network has fed around 300 families and redistributed $9000 within the people in Buffalo. The need will continue, as will our need for wonderful volunteers able to donate a small portion of their time weekly or semi-weekly.

Victory Sports is a non-profit that provides kids and other youth-serving organizations with the equipment they need to play sport and be active. 

We are looking for help from a bookkeeper for 1-2 hours per week. Must have experience with QuickBooks. CPA preferable but not essential. Should have experience working with non-profits.

This would involve coming to our office in Clarence to sit with Executive Director to go through accounts payable and receivable and weekly financial entries and reconciliations.

Volunteers are needed to work in our Food Pantry on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Volunteer tasks include packing food bags, organizing and sorting food donations, stocking shelves, etc.

Once you submit your volunteer REQUEST thru VolunteerWNY, our Volunteer Coordinator will contact you about scheduling a shift. All volunteers must complete an application BEFORE being added to the volunteer schedule. PLEASE do not just show up without speaking to our Volunteer Coordinator. We want to ensure everyone has a GREAT volunteer experience, and need to prepare for your arrival.

We are in need of a "tester" to check the product that we receive is in working order.  This may include putting together items (such as lamps), plugging in small appliances (such as microwaves).

Distribution of food that maintains social distancing guidelines occurs through a no contact drive-thru system.  This is a fast paced outdoor physical activity. All volunteers must be able to stand for 2-3 hours, lift bags of groceries 10-20 lbs, and don't mind working outside in Buffalo's every changing weather.       

Our volunteers have been working this drive-thru system since COVID began in March and we sure could use a few extra hands alongside of us on a temporary or permanent basis.   

Nightly cleaning and sanitizing of the food pantry equipment and work areas along with required masks, social distancing, and hand sanitation stations have been implemented.

Food Pantry 

Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. We are especially looking for assistance from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. to unload pallets of food from our community partner deliveries, pre-pack bags/boxes of food staples, stock pantry shelves, clean, and perform general customer service needs for each of our families. Individuals must be able to carry client’s orders from the building to their cars from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., so as to limit exposure both to you and our clients.  Duties dictate that volunteers be able to lift 40 pounds and perform bending and up and down movement repeatedly.

Community Missions strictly follows current Covid-19 mandates that require daily sign-ins, temperature checks, answering of pandemic questions, and the wearing of masks continuously while on our campus.

With the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of our agency's in-person volunteer opportunities are on hold due to the need for social distancing and temporary closure of some sites. However, the needs of our clients are greater than ever. 

One great way to continue volunteering with our agency and supporting our clients is to host a donation drive! Get together with your coworkers, friends or family and collect items to donate to our food pantries, personal essentials pantry, homeless outreach team, or tenants living in our permanent supportive housing!

With COVID-19, Every Bottom Covered's needs have increased.  We are seeing more families who have been displaced by the pandemic and our volunteer support was affected as it decreased due to the lockdown.  As our services are essential, we never stopped providing them to the community and we have a backlog of paperwork and intake that has occurred.  We could use your help getting back on track!

Reading changes lives. From issues of social justice to gaining employment to keeping your family healthy in a pandemic, the ability to read is a game changer. Yet, so many in our community struggle with basic reading skills. Many have silently gone through life without being able to read and write above a basic level, impacting their ability to find a good job, get promoted, or help their children with schoolwork. Others are learning English as a second language, finding new hope as new citizens in the U.S.

Our volunteer tutors work with adult students in person for two hours, one day a week. No teaching experience required! All you need is the desire to learn and work with an adult learning. Volunteers participate in training that is a mix of in-person sessions and an online workshop.

Tutors are matched with students based on their schedule availability and meet at any public place, most usually a library, that works for both the tutor and the student.

Provide comfort and care when your neighbors experience a crisis, particularly house fires! Disaster Action Teams respond within two hours to the scene of a house fire, meeting the immediate basic needs of those affected and beginning recovery casework. 

**This is an ON-CALL position with need for volunteers willing to travel throughout Erie County!
