We are looking for passionate volunteers to SHINE THEIR LIGHT as part of the planning committee for The Longest Day, our annual "do-it-yourself" fundraising program!

The ambassador’s role for TLD includes all or some of the following: attending monthly committee meetings, making phone calls to participants, writing thank you cards, reaching out to potential TLD participants, spreading awareness of the Alzheimer’s Association and TLD, fundraising etc. Your Alzheimer's Association staff partner supports you throughout the program and is very flexible and happy to tailor your volunteer experience around your interests and schedule. We offer both virtual and in-person opportunities.

Ideal volunteers would have some of these traits: Enjoying connecting with people, enthusiasm, are passionate about ending Alzheimer's, comfortable talking on the phone, and a willingness to participate in events.

Monthly commitment: Approximately 2-3 hours per month. This will vary depending on the month, and as mentioned above, our staff partner is very flexible with what works for you.

Graycliff’s guided tour program is led by a group of enthusiastic volunteer Docents who uniquely interpret our historic site. Our docents lead publicly available tours, as well as group, school, and specialty tours. Graycliff Docents present our lakeside property to visitors, animating the many stories of this very special place. Volunteering in this capacity is an excellent opportunity to learn all about Frank Lloyd Wright, Ellen Biddle Shipman, the Martin family, and the specific context of Graycliff. You’ll perfect skills you already have, while developing new ones, and join a community of talented and passionate individuals.

Non-Profit Board Member - Ten Thousand Villages Buffalo, a fair trade non-profit retailer is recruiting new board members as our organization begins its 40th year in WNY. Board members attend monthly meetings and work on various projects in support of the organization and the fair trade mission. Some key areas are fundraising, marketing, strategy, and finance. This is an exciting opportunity as we plan on growing our impact on the fair trade mission and revamping our retail store’s operations.

Resurrection Life Food Pantry is in need of an ASL interpreter that can facilitate communication between the deaf community that we serve on Thursdays from 10-12. The pantry serves over 1,000 families each month with approximately 30 individuals being deaf. 

This volunteer would work alongside our team at a regular food distribution and be available as a translator when deaf clients arrive.

Description: Docents are a vital part of the Buffalo Museum of Science. Docents assist and educate our
visitors on various topics. Docents for travel exhibits will work inside the exhibit the entire time of their
shift. These docents will answer questions about the exhibit to the best of their ability, troubleshoot
with exhibits as trained, and ensure visitors are following the Museum’s code of conduct.

Primary responsibilities:
• Complete required travel exhibit training
• Arrive on time for the event
• Greet guests with a smile
• Answer questions from guests
• Troubleshoot any items in the exhibit that visitors need help with

Skills/Experience:
• Science or educational background recommended but not necessary
• Comfortable speaking to strangers and able to engage with a variety of age groups
• Exudes an outgoing, creative, and pleasant attitude
• Strong public speaking skills

Physical Demands:
• Able to stand for at least three hours at a time

Age Requirements
• Must be 14 years or older to volunteer in this exhibit

Length of Commitment:
• Five-month minimum commitment due to the length of training
• Must be able to complete at least 1-2 shifts per week for the run of the exhibit

The Buffalo Naval Park is in the process of building a robust corps of volunteers to help us maintain and improve our three vessels afloat: the World War Two-era cruiser Little Rock, destroyer The Sullivans, and submarine Croaker along with our Vietnam-era PTF boat displayed ashore. There are an abundance of opportunities to participate in the preservation of these irreplaceable and historic ships that played such pivotal roles in the defense of our freedoms. We have immediate needs for experienced electricians, welders and metal workers, woodworkers as well as those who could contribute by cleaning spaces and displays aboard, and painting our ships inside and out. We’d love to have you join us in preserving these treasures.

The Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park is seeking volunteers to assist with events. There are various opportunities available depending on availability and level of interest. Volunteers on the events committee can take a leadership role in planning and executing one or more event(s) that may include attending planning meetings, reaching out to potential partners, and assisting with aspects of the event from inception to execution. There are also opportunities for volunteers to assist on the day(s) of the event that can include greeting visitors, registration, and facilitating activities.

Greeting guest as they enter and making them feel welcome, maintaining the products neatly and organized. Help with the sale of products and admission tickets. Assist with ticketing items and stocking. Seasonal position – April 1 – mid-November. Hours of operation 10:00 am – 5:00 pm.  We are flexible based on your availability.

Our uniformed, trained cadre of tour guides (or docents) are the educators and storytellers aboard our ships afloat. They know the histories, battles, sailors, and personal anecdotes related to these ships. Initial and ongoing training is provided, and veterans and non veterans alike are welcome to join us. If you've visited the park, you've no doubt seen the beautiful flowers and immaculately maintained grounds enjoyed by so many. Our team of garden and grounds volunteers have made the areas surrounding the memorials and monuments places of beauty and reflection. If you enjoy gardening and wish to be a part of this dedicated team, please let us know - we'd love to have you join us!

Looking for a knowledgeable volunteer for the museum collections. Should have a background in archival and library principles, but will train as required. This individual will be cataloging donations into the collection, assisting with the arrangement and descriptions of collections, while also helping with YouTube videos as necessary.

Media of the collections includes both 2D and 3D artifacts. This person would be interested in following the mission of the Buffalo Naval Park, familiar with MS Office products, and be able to tolerate moderate physical demands including lifting and shifting boxes, climbing up and down stairs\ladders with tight spaces and be able to lift up to 25 lbs.

Looking for volunteers to assist with our Overnight Encampment program.  The Buffalo Naval Park hosts campers on weekends as they spend the night aboard the USS Little Rock.  The campers are typically made up of scouts.  Our Overnight Encampment allows the camper to experience life aboard a Navy vessel.  Volunteers would assist with serving dinner/breakfast, leading campers to programming, assisting in an educational activity, and light maintenance and cleaning duties.  The program runs 4:00 pm Saturday through 10:00 am Sunday with dates throughout the Spring and Fall.  You will also have the option to spend the night onboard the USS Little Rock. 

We are always looking for generous individuals to donate items for newly arrived refugees. When a refugee family arrives, we find permeant housing for the family to live. With the help of our wonderful donors and volunteers we are able to fill the home with all the necessary items. You would be in charge of collecting items on our list and bringing them to our donation space.

We are looking for individuals with a passion for social justice and reentry who would like to participate in or lead our in-prison visitation support groups & community support groups. We have heard wonderful feedback from past participants/leaders telling us that the experience was memorable, meaningful, and worthwhile. It is a requirement of this role that all clients are treated with the respect and dignity that they deserve.

Residents at Vive go through long, difficult journeys to finally end up claiming asylum in Buffalo. When they arrive they need to learn a new language, how to make it around a new city, take care of their physical and mental health, enroll kids in school, and lots of other complicated things. It's hard enough learning these things on your own when you a move to a new place. Imagine doing it in a new country while you are still learning the language!

Duties:

Accompaniment Volunteers will meet residents at the shelter and walk or ride the bus with them as they make their way to locations across Buffalo and then back to Vive. On Wednesdays we have a weekly Vive clinic that many residents attend. It is very busy and we cannot give everyone the individual attention they may need so Accompaniment Volunteers could stay with people as they wait. You can be that calming steady person that stands with them as they figure out we are truly the City of Good Neighbors!

Who you'll work with:

Volunteers work with Social Work and Family Program staff along with residents staying at Vive.

People with the following skills/experience would be great here:

No need for previous experience in social work or the medical field. Interest in sharing cultures with people different from you. Conversational fluency in a language other than English is great but not required at all.

VIVE Kitchen Volunteer

VIVE has a significant need for volunteers to assist in meal prep and service in our kitchen at Vive Shelter for Lunch and Dinner.

Duties:

Food is healing! Residents at Vive go through long, difficult journeys to finally end up claiming asylum in Buffalo. When they arrive they need a moment to recharge, find safety, while being both figuratively & literally fed. Our kitchen volunteers ensure we share culturally relevant nourishment with the families staying at the shelter. Volunteers work with a resident-led team who help guide hospitality for their peers. Duties include working with a team of multi-lingual, multi-national residents to help prepare and serve meals.

Who you'll work with:

Vive's Kitchen Managers and Hospitality Team along with residents staying at Vive.

Minimum time commitment:

Once a week on an ongoing basis is ideal. 1-2 times a month works too! We serve 3 meals a day every day 365 days a year so there's always help to give.

Requirements (other than COVID vaccination):

Comfortable taking direction from the kitchen managers for safe meal prep. Masks worn at all times inside facility. Volunteers must be over the age of 18.

People with the following skills/experience would be great here:

Passionate about cooking. No need for previous experience cooking for large groups. Interest in sharing cultures with people different from you. Conversational fluency in a language other than English is great but not required.

Volunteers can expect to work with the Activities Department and help with games, crafts, events, and 1-to-1 interaction to improve residents' social stimulation and help them have fun! This is an excellent opportunity for retirees looking to give back, get more engaged, or share their knowledge with the community. It's also great for students who are considering a career in the medical field or those looking for service-learning hours. We ask that volunteers be willing to commit to six months, with a minimum of 10hrs per month.  

HighPointe on Michigan is a 300-bed facility dedicated to sub-acute rehabilitation and traditional long-term care. It includes a floor for memory care, a physical therapy department, a ventilator unit, and a pediatric unit.

Volunteers make a huge difference to our residents and staff! Volunteers can expect to work with the Activities Department and help with games, crafts, events, and 1-to-1 interaction to improve residents' social stimulation and help them have fun! This is an excellent opportunity for retirees looking to give back, get more engaged, or share their knowledge with the community. DeGraff SNF is an 80-bed facility that provides both sub-acute rehabilitation and traditional long-term care. 

A volunteer Pilates/yoga instructors are needed to teach yoga and/or Pilates. This volunteer would help clients use movement and fitness to alleviate stress, negative body issues and trauma. This opportunity would be one to two times per week between 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

We are also looking for a volunteer life/motivational coach to work with our clients during the week from 9-12 p.m.

This volunteer role is meant to be a fun and engaging opportunity. The Deconstruction Manager, Angela Watson, is
looking to grow this initiative exponentially, promote Habitat Buffalo, and support Habitat’s mission.

Canopy of Neighbors is looking for Board members to help us serve the elder community in Buffalo.

Canopy of Neighbors is a non-profit organization creating new pathways to aging well and aging independently in community. Part of the national "village" movement, Canopy services a socioeconomically and culturally diverse population of seniors who need non-medical and non-social service supports to remain in their homes. Our volunteers drive seniors to crucial medical and social appointments, engage in friendly visits, volunteer help and socialization. We also run a robust programming schedule, which includes transportation. Our efforts are crucial to mitigating the negative effects of social isolation and allows seniors to remain in their communities and maintain positive mental and physical health outcomes.

Board members meet 5-6X/year for one-hour meetings, usually Tuesdays from 5-6pm. We are especially in need of volunteers with Non-Profit Governance and Finance experience, but all contributions of time, talent and treasure are welcome! Leveling the Playing Field is a nonprofit that gets kids from under-resourced communities involved in youth sports through the collection and distribution of gently used or extra sporting equipment.

Our Buffalo warehouse has recently opened- and setting up the warehouse to store all incoming donations is the top priority. Volunteers will also help to maintain warehouse operations, sort incoming sporting donations, and assist with other tasks at the warehouse.

Leveling the Playing Field works within the community to collect used/excess sporting equipment so that we can ensure that every kid living in and around Western New York can enjoy the benefits of athletic involvement. Our free donations benefit Title I schools and youth/after-school programs looking to engage their students in the physical & and mental benefits of youth sports participation. 

So clean out your garages and clear the yard of used sporting equipment so that kids who are less fortunate are able to enjoy them! We have a drop-off bin in front of the warehouse to accommodate donations or schedule an appointment to drop your gear off. WNY Leveling the Playing Field has opened our doors and we are working to fill our warehouse with used and excess sports equipment so we can begin distributing it to kids in need by Spring 2024!

Collection drives are the most impactful way to help LPF get the gear we need to support local kids in need. Essentially, volunteer collectors tap into their network of classmates, friends, teammates, neighbors, etc. to collect any unused/extra gear. Donations are then transported to our warehouse, with an optional volunteer session to inventory and sort your own collections! You can register yourself for a collection drive here.

Fundraising is an essential part of sustaining the non profit sector but is also a great way for people to support our work if they don't have any equipment items to donate. As the first point of contact for guests at Old Fort Niagara, Tour Guides play a crucial role in creating a positive and memorable experience for our visitors. We are currently looking for new Tour Guides to join our team and lead daily orientation tours, school field trip tours, and specialty tours throughout the year. To ensure that our guides are well-equipped to deliver engaging and informative tours, we provide comprehensive training and mentorship programs. Provide comfort and care when your neighbors experience a crisis, particularly house fires! Disaster Action Teams respond within two hours to the scene of a house fire, meeting the immediate basic needs of those affected and beginning recovery casework.

Buffalo State faculty and staff are invited to join our FeedMore Meal Delivery Team! Two Buffalo State faculty/staff volunteers deliver meals in the Blackrock neighborhood of Buffalo on Wednesdays and Thursdays each week. Delivery takes approximately one hour beginning at 11:00am. 

The Meal Delivery Team is a great way to meet others from across campus and utilize your lunch hour to assist our neighbors.

We want our volunteers to focus on the friendship because social isolation is deadly for our seniors and they have so much to offer in life wisdom and experience. 

Be the Calm in the Storm -- Join the American Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) as a volunteer and become an essential part of emergency response efforts in Falconer, NY. As a Disaster Action Team Volunteer, you will play a vital role in providing immediate assistance, comfort, and support to individuals and families experiencing a crisis, particularly house fires or other local disasters!

Disaster Action Teams respond within hours to the scene of an emergency, meeting the immediate basic needs of those affected and beginning recovery casework.
    
Volunteers must be able to provide empathetic support to individuals experiencing distress and uncertainty through challenging times, present strong verbal communication skills, willingness to work collaboratively and be dependable in responding to disasters calls and fulfilling assigned responsibilities.

Position Overview:

We are seeking passionate and dedicated Volunteer Tutors to join the WNY Learning Lab team. As a tutor, you will provide one-on-one or small group academic support to students of various ages and educational backgrounds. Your role will be crucial in helping students improve their understanding of subject material, develop strong study habits, and build confidence in their academic abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide personalized tutoring sessions in subjects such as Math, Science, English, History, or other areas based on your expertise and student needs.

Assist students with homework, test preparation, and overall subject comprehension.

Develop tailored lesson plans and learning activities to meet individual student needs.

Located on a 47-acre property with rolling fields, lush woods, and even a federally-protected wetland, Against All Oddz Animal Alliance is the perfect, little sanctuary to get in touch with your inner zen while helping out some critters in need of love and guidance. We are a small, but mighty, organization looking to expand our pack and help further socialize our furry residents with new faces and new handling techniques. Working with the dogs directly is certainly the biggest draw here for volunteers, as per any rescue out there -- who doesn't want to spend time squishing faces and enjoy a game of fetch?

All we ask is a commitment of a single two-hour shift per week so that the dogs remember you, though we are flexible and understand life can be hectic!
