You're welcome to use our stove, sink, refrigerator, all the utensils, pots, pans, and baking dishes. Food is served around 6:00 p.m. Please call a few days in advance for a head count, but plan for about 6-10 guests plus yourselves.

Additional information:

You are welcome to stay and eat with the families-- they enjoy company and appreciate the fellowship.
All of our families aren't always present at dinner time, but do enjoy their dinner when they come home from the hospital!

The most important part is to have fun!

Volunteer: Clothes Closet Volunteers

Clothes Closet

Volunteers needed Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Volunteers will be sorting through clothing and household items for suitability, then placing them in our “closet” for people to select.

CMI is very fortunate in the amount of donations we receive. On Wednesdays, a new drop off donation program has been instituted from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. During this time, volunteers would be accepting items from donors who drive up to the Mission and drop off their donations. Persons satisfying this shift would be taking items out of donor’s cars, and bringing them into our repository room to be sorted at a later time.  Because of the way we are accepting donations, contact is at a minimum, limiting exposure.  Currently, the shift is heavy from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. but we are anticipating it to become busier from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. as commuters learn about this opportunity.  It would be ideal for students needing volunteer hours and currently in hybrid or remote learning as they can bring their homework to work on.  Must be able to lift 40 pounds and perform bending and up and down movement repeatedly.

Due to our strict adherence to Covid-19 mandated guidelines, volunteers will sign in daily, answer a series of questions, have their temperature checked and wear a mask the entire time they are on the Community Missions campus.

Volunteer: Angel Card Program

Volunteers are needed to assist with FeedMore WNY's Angel Card program! Throughout the year we often distribute greeting cards, that community members have made and donated, to our home delivered meal clients. It is a way to lift our clients' spirits and put a smile on their face! This project can be done remotely, and cards can be handmade, created on a computer or even store bought and  then decorated further. We just require that none of the cards are dated, that they do not have any offensive language on them and that they are not addressed to anyone specific.  Cards can be for any holiday or general purpose, but we do ask that cards are not specific to any particular religious holiday (i.e. get well soon cards, birthday cards, cards saying: happy fall, or happy holidays, etc.). If providing envelopes with your cards please do not seal them.

Once completed, cards can either be dropped off (between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday) at 100 James E Casey Drive Buffalo 14206, or mailed.  Cards can also be dropped off on Saturdays (between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.) at 91 Holt Street, Buffalo 14206.

Learn more about this program by contacting Kyle Dillman at kdillman@feedmorewny.org.

Volunteer: Volunteer Income Tax Preparation - Remote Available

United Way of Buffalo & Erie County supports volunteer income tax preparation (VITA) through a network of partners in Erie County and Western New York. Under the auspices of the Internal Revenue Service, volunteers complete income taxes for low and moderate income individuals and families. This saves them the cost of preparation fees, and helps them claim resources such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Care Tax Credit. Free training is provided so that you are certified in how to prepare and review the tax returns. Remote online volunteering is available. While the busiest season is the traditional tax preparation time of January through mid April, volunteers are needed all year around to prepare returns that are not aligned with the traditional timetable. Individuals are needed both to prepare the taxes, and to help by making sure all documentation is in place. Here is a four-minute video so you can hear from VITA volunteers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niC26DOA3qg&feature=youtu.be

Volunteer: Equipment Donation Assistant

Victory Sports is a non-profit that provides sports equipment to those in need of free or low-cost items to make sure ALL children have the chance to participate and experience all the benefits of playing sports.

We have recently moved our donation and sorting warehouse to the Eastern Hills Mall in Williamsville.

We receive a steady stream of donated equipment that we have to sort and prepare to either be given away in the community or to be sold at our outlet.

We are in need of at least one, preferably two, volunteers to come to our warehouse for a couple of hours each week to help us manage our inventory. We would like volunteers to commit to at least 4 weeks so you can become familiar with our operations.

Your tasks would include:

Sorting incoming donations into different sports, sizes, etc. Determining items suitable for sale/giveaway or the trash Keeping the warehouse organized

We can work around your schedule each week or you can lock in a 2-hour window at the same time each week. Whatever works for you!

The role will involve some lifting but can avoid heavy lifting, but you will need to be mobile and able to lift boxes and sports equipment around the store.

It would be useful if you have some basic understanding of sports equipment such as what item is for what sport and size/age/gender etc. but this shouldn't put you off contacting us if you are not an expert.

Please contact us for more information. Start time is ASAP and will be an ongoing requirement so for however long you are able to help us.

Volunteer: Mental Health Ambassador Program/ #MyStory Initiative

The #Mystory program is dedicated to educating people about the lives and hardships of immigrants and refugees. By sharing their stories, we are able to reduce stigma and help others become more open-minded about the immigrant/refugee process. This creates a sense of unity and belonging among people, especially if they do not share the same culture, background, or belief. That is our goal: to unite people with a story.

To become a volunteer, they must be in the 12-20 year old age range. They must be passionate about multicultural issues, responsible, and willing to spend time on this program.

This is a one year program and it is divided into two semesters. In the first semester, an individual will undergo "mental health ambassador training". Through this, they will be able to gain knowledge and to give insight into certain mental health topics through a series of 5-11 training sessions. After the first semester, they will have the option to either, create their own project with the help of a mentor, or join the #MyStory program. If they choose to pursue the #MyStory program, they will become an interviewer. They will then speak to an immigrant we will connect them with. They will collect their story and, enlisting the help of our photographer, they will collect photographs that encompass that individual's story.

An individual may either enter their own project in the Youth Achievement Challenge, or they may enter their contribution in the #MyStory project. Either way, the winners of this competition will receive a partial college scholarship.

As a volunteer, they will get a Mental Health Ambassador certificate from Bridges from Borders, an opportunity to win a partial college scholarship, volunteer hours, professional references valuable for college applications, public speaking / leadership experience, and opportunities to participate and/or initiate community-wide programs.

If you are interested in this, please go to https://bridgesfromborders.org/mental-health-ambassador-program to sign up as a mental health ambassador.

Volunteer: Run a Sports Collection Drive!

WNY Leveling the Playing Field has opened our doors and we are working to fill our warehouse with used and excess sports equipment so we can begin distributing it to kids in need by Spring 2024!

Collection drives are the most impactful way to help LPF get the gear we need to support local kids in need. Essentially, volunteer collectors tap into their network of classmates, friends, teammates, neighbors, etc. to collect any unused/extra gear. Donations are then transported to our warehouse, with an optional volunteer session to inventory and sort your own collections!

To learn more about how to run your own collection drive, please visit www.levelingtheplayingfield.org or contact WNY Program Director Cam Daugherty at cam@levelingtheplayingfield.org. Thank you for your support!
