Pelion Outdoor Classroom

Who We Are

Pelion Outdoor Classroom engages over 200 students weekly. We educate students on the connection between food, health, and the environment and connect neighbors with resources for sustainable living. Pelion was established in 2011; the effort spearheaded by parents who had a vision for transforming four blighted lots across from the public school into an environmental learning center to serve students and the greater City Honors neighborhood. We offer internships, summer jobs for youth, growing space for our neighbors and maintain a natural oasis for flowers, birds and bugs. Live or work nearby? You can adopt one our plots to grow something fresh for your household, church, club or hobby!

What We Do

Pelion's mission is to serve as a hands-on outdoor classroom that engages students and community members with lessons in eco-literacy and stewardship. We educate students on the connection between food, health, and the environment. We connect neighbors with resources for sustainable living. Each year, teacher involvement in the garden has grown with many science classes, Home and Careers, Art and STARS (Students with Autism Rising to Success) enjoying activities. In addition, garden and beekeeping clubs meet weekly. We host a calendar of regularly scheduled volunteer sessions, cooking demos, workshops, and public events to celebrate the seasons in WNY. Choose Pelion as a venue for your meet-cutes, club, brown bag lectures, picnic lunch, reading/poetry club or sketch group!
