Who We Are

Wintermission is an innovative program that aims to combat social isolation and increase levels of physical activity for all residents, no matter their age, ability, socio-economic, or ethnocultural backgrounds. We are introducing two new and exciting pilot programs that have been generated in response to the COVID-19 pandemic: Winter Porch Sports and Winter in a Box. These programs are meant to encourage safe and viable options for maintaining a healthy mind and body, whilst also following CDC guidelines and isolation precautions during this unprecedented time.

What We Do

"Winter Porch Sports" is designed to engage residents in physical activity with their neighbors to decrease the effects of social isolation by giving the entire neighborhood a common goal to achieve, right on their front porches/lawns/sidewalks. I am sure you have seen throughout quarantine the videos of other countries engaging in singing and group exercise right out on their balconies (if not, see here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2Rle1YS5Fs?) and so we are trying to recreate that right here on a residential street in Buffalo!

How do we plan to do this? We are going to be renting out LED Billboard trucks with screens on either side of them to drive through pre-determined neighborhood routes, park, and play a 30 minute health and wellness exercise video for the whole neighborhood to see and join in on!
