Who We Are
The Medina Railroad Museum is housed in a magnificent 300-foot wooden freight depot built by the New York Central Railroad in 1905. From its opening, the depot served as a vital distribution hub for numerous local manufacturing companies, most notably the nearby Heinz Pickle Factory. Today, the museum stands as one of the largest freight depot museums in the country, featuring thousands of railroad artifacts and one of the nation's largest HO-gauge model train layouts, while offering popular excursion train rides between Medina and Lockport.
The mission of the Medina Railroad Museum is to assemble, preserve, interpret, and display railroad artifacts, models, and memorabilia for the enjoyment of the public and the education of future generations and to benefit tourism and economic development within the area. The museum strives to capture the significance of railroading as it relates to the development of the western New York region and the USA.
The museum aspires to be a premier destination where the transformative power of railroading comes alive, inspiring wonder in visitors of all ages, fostering deep appreciation for the iron rails that built America, and serving as a vibrant community cornerstone that celebrates Western New York's rich railroad heritage while driving regional prosperity for generations to come.
