Who We Are
The Greater Chautauqua Area AMBUCS was chartered in 2012. We are a chapter of National AMBUCS, who serves as our parent organization. The mission of our chapter is to create mobility and independence for people with disabilities. Through our volunteer efforts we endeavor to raise money to purchase and donate AmTrykes®. The AmTryke® is a therapeutic tricycle that is designed to help improve motor skills, provide strength training, and most importantly, build self-esteem of children, teens and adults with disabling conditions.
What We Do
We are connected:
The Greater Chautauqua Area AMBUCS has been connecting with many community agencies such as The Resource Center, Aspire, schools and parent groups to increase the awareness of the unique service we provide. We are one of only two chapters in the entire state who provide adaptive trykes to people with disabilities. The other chapter is located in Binghamton.
Process of receiving an AmTryke®
Because of the therapeutic nature of the AmTryke®, each family/caregiver requesting an AmTryke must have their loved one evaluated by an occupational therapy practitioner. This allows the individual to receive the AmTryke® model offering the greatest therapeutic value. Our chapter also works closely with area occupational and physical therapy practitioners to ensure that the AmTryke® ordered is the best possible option for the child/teen/adult to use at home or school. Once the tryke is ordered and assembled, it is then properly fitted to the recipient. The family/caregiver is educated on how to adjust the tryke as needed.
To date, Greater Chautauqua Area AMBUCS has been fortunate to have been able to donate 50 AmTrykes® since we chartered in April 2012.
