Who We Are
The Charter School of Inquiry (CSI), opening August 31, 2015, is now accepting applications for Kindergarten, 1st Grade and 2nd Grade students. This new and innovative school includes researched best practices, high expectations, hands-on inquiry-based learning, highly effective teachers, the inclusion of African-American history and culture in all subject areas, a focus on reading and critical thinking, a free 2-hour extended day program, and a culture of respect and collaboration among children, teachers, parents and community.
What We Do
The Charter School of Inquiry (CSI) will achieve breakthrough outcomes for City of Buffalo children in Kindergarten through Grade 6 by creating an inquiry-based learning environment with an intense focus on learning to read and write well in all subject areas. CSI offers an exceptionally high quality education using intentional reading and language development, aligned curriculum, engaging inquiry-based practices, and an outstanding system of supports. Children at CSI will learn to think critically,problem-solve and work collaboratively to enable their participation as citizens of their community and the world.
- Inquiry-based instruction that builds on children’s natural curiosity Children learn by exploring, investigating, analyzing and creating.
- Academic focus on literacy, critical think- ing, and problem solving. Low student to teacher ratio. Individual instruction plan for each child.
- Longer school day and school year.
- Free 2-hour extended day program (3:30 pm to 5:30 pm).
- Bus transportation available.
- Infusion of African-American history and culture while celebrating the cultures of all children.
- School culture based on collaboration and respect.
