

Who We Are
The Seneca Nation AmeriCorps Program’s emphasis will be in the areas of education, disaster services and cultural enrichment. The educational initiative will train and utilize a corps of capable, committed individuals to work with students attending grades K-8 in the districts adjacent to the Cattaraugus Territory to improve their ELA & Math proficiency. Seneca Nation AmeriCorps members will provide academic coaching to students in 1:1 or small groups to facilitate students’ improvement in ELA & Math. In the area of disaster services, AmeriCorps members will distribute emergency preparedness materials to residents of Cattaraugus Territory. They will also participate in disaster relief efforts in the event of an emergency. In the area of cultural enrichment, AmeriCorps members will provide instruction to increase knowledge of Seneca language, history, and culture among Native students.
What We Do
Essential Functions of Position:
- Academic assistance to students struggling to achieve grade level placement in Math skill testing.
- Ability to work with fellow Seneca Nation AmeriCorps Members and Seneca Education Department staff.
- Provide individual guidance to students in Math.
- Provide small group facilitation serving students as they engage during classroom activities and skill building in Math.
- Following the direction of the classroom teacher, will assist with classroom activities serving students .
- Will promote STEM based careers with all students they interact with
- Will be part of Seneca Nation Emergency Management team in occasion of natural disaster.
