

Who We Are
Southwestern Independent Living Center is a private, nonprofit agency providing services to individuals with disabilities and their families. Our agency is consumer run and staffed by individuals with disabilities. We strive to assist consumers in reaching their personal goals through self-direction to maximize their independence and attain an enriched quality of life.
What We Do
The following services are provided to individuals with disabilities, and their family members, to assist them in maintaining their independence in the community:
advocacy - assistance in obtaining benefits or access to services, including representation at Social Security hearings
housing - assistance in securing appropriate, accessible, and affordable housing, including applying for subsidized housing
peer support - individuals with disabilities are available to mentor and support others in reaching their personal goals
living skills training - assistance is provided in areas of community mobility, home and time management, social skills
accessible transportation - wheelchair transportation is available weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., evenings and weekends by prior arrangement
information and referral - assistance with locating available services and appropriate referrals will be made
architectural barrier consultation - information is provided on removing architectural barriers in compliance with ADA and ANSI standards
equipment loan - durable medical equipment is available for loan including walkers, wheelchairs, ramps, shower benches, and more
disability awareness training - specialized training is available on disability issues and laws
VITA tax preparation is also available
