DISCUSSION GROUP LEADER

SUMMARY: The Adult Day Health Care Program (GuildCare) provides healthcare and recreation for seniors with vision loss, multiple developmental disabilities and chronic medical conditions. A volunteer is needed to serve as a Discussion Group Leader and lead seniors in intellectually stimulating or thought-provoking group conversations.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the program director or designee the Discussion Group Leader will:
1. Research various topics for discussion and preparing necessary tools from various media to support the discussion, i.e., current events, sports, entertainment, etc.
2. Facilitate discussions that encourage thinking, understanding, learning and remembering.
3. Encourage discussion and participation from all participants within group.
4. Create a safe environment for communication.
5. Be willing to assist by escorting clients to and from sessions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be engaging, personable, kind and dependable.
2. Must be able to communicate respect for and acceptance of clients and their feelings.
3. Ability to encourage a nonjudgmental collaborative relationship.
4. Prior experience facilitating discussion groups preferred but not required.
5. Bilingual Spanish/English preferred but not required.
DETAILS OF SERVICE OPPORTUNITY: This is an on-going opportunity that begins upon approval by staff members. Candidates must be available Monday-Friday from 9:00am-3:00pm, except between 12:00pm-1:00pm, at least but not limited to one hour per week, plus any time required for planning and preparation. A health form and proof of immunizations must be completed by physician. All candidates must be tested for TB prior to volunteering. The attire during this position is business casual.
