WNY Developmental Disabilities State Operations

OPPORTUNITY:

• Summer Apprentice at a Day Habilitation site.

• This is a unique 6-week opportunity. It may be considered an internship or service learning for specific course requirements.
• This is an unpaid volunteer experience.
• This experience will offer an opportunity to increase awareness, develop relationships, and to support individuals with developmental disabilities in reaching their maximum potential.
• Various locations in Western New York.

JOB DUTIES:

• Assist staff in Day Habilitation program to enhance and support skill development in social behavior, activities of daily living, dining skills, community participation, mobility, and recreation.
• Assist in active programming including; gardening, cooking/baking, music appreciation, self-advocacy, social skills, fitness, pet care, arts and crafts, reading, sensory activities and other activities of daily living.
• Assist in Community Inclusion Outings.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Summer Apprentices will be on site for 20-40 hours per week for 6 weeks. They must commit to a certain amount of hours per week with their Supervisor.

• Start date: Monday June 4^th, 2018
• End date: Friday July 13^th, 2018

Candidates must complete an application, provide TB test results and have an interview.

• Candidates must attend Orientation on June 4^th.
• Candidates must be 18 years of age by May 2018.
• Candidates must possess a High School diploma or GED.
• Candidates must have reliable transportation.
• Candidates must have good attendance and call in to supervisor when unable to report to duty.
