World Refugee Day in WNY is an annual celebration of refugees, immigrants, and newcomers in the greater Buffalo area. It is a festive and family-friendly day filled with a soccer tournament, food and cultural activities, kids activities, and much more. We need volunteers to help facilitate activities, serve food, clean up, set up, and help the day run smoothly.
World Refugee Day is a global event initiated in 2000 by the United Nations. Here in Western New York, we want to celebrate people of all kinds who add great diversity to our communities. Our goals are to:
- Empower refugees and newcomers/new citizens
- Build community among refugees and newcomers/new citizens
- Increase community awareness of refugees and newcomers/new citizens
- Create a welcoming environment for refugees and newcomers/new citizens
- Highlight refugee and newcomers/new citizen successes
