World Refugee Day is a global event initiated in 2000 by the United Nations. Here in Western New York, we want to celebrate people of all kinds who add great diversity to our communities. Our goals are to:
- Empower refugees and newcomers/new citizens
- Build community among refugees and newcomers/new citizens
- Increase community awareness of refugees and newcomers/new citizens
- Create a welcoming environment for refugees and newcomers/new citizens
- Highlight refugee and newcomers/new citizen successes
This event will be held at LaSalle park on Saturday, June 23, 2018. The event involved a variety of activities including a soccer tournament, a volleyball tournament, food, cultural performances, kids activities, Frisbee, and a number of community agencies will be tabling.
