Description

CASA OF ERIE COUNTY URGENTLY NEEDS VOLUNTEERS

America’s foster care system is broken, and the nation’s 400,000 foster kids need help. That’s what CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) does.

MHA is home to CASA of Erie County, which recruits, trains, and supports local CASA volunteersCASA programs around the country support and promote court-appointed volunteer advocacy so every child who has experienced abuse or neglect can have the opportunity to thrive.

CASA volunteers are trained to understand the impact of trauma on children. They also speak with service providers, teachers, and social workers to gather the information they need to make informed recommendations to the court. Children with a CASA volunteer are more likely to find a safe, permanent home, more likely to succeed in school, and half as likely to re-enter the foster care system.

There are currently over 100 children assigned to CASA of Erie County, waiting for someone to advocate for them. Becoming a CASA volunteer is priceless to a child and can change that child’s life story forever.

Learn how you can take the first step to become a CASA volunteer by contacting Jodi Johnson, Director of CASA of Erie County, 716-886-1242 x318; johnson@mhawny.org

It's not too late to help change a child’s story. Become a CASA volunteer today.
